Research Interests

David McDaid is an Associate Professorial Research Fellow in Health Policy and Health Economics at the Personal Social Services Research Unit at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is involved in a wide range of work on mental health and public ealth in the UK, Europe and at the global level. He is a co-ordinator of the Mental Health Economics European Network, a member of NICE's Public Health Interventions Advisory Committee since 2007, Co-Convenor of the Cochrane Campbell Economic Methods Group and has acted as an advisor to a range of organisations, including the European Commission and World Health Organisation, and national/regional governmental departments, including the Department of Health in England and equivalent bodies in Scotland and Wales. He has published over 300 peer reviewed papers and reports, including a report for the UK Department of Health which looked at the economic case for investing in mental health promotion and mental disorder prevention. He is the editor of two recent books – the first on economics and wellbeing and the second, a collaboration between the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies and the OECD, looks at the economic case for investing in health promotion and disease prevention. He is also a past winner of the European Health Management Association's Baxter Award in 2007 for the best book on health policy – Mental Health Policy and Practice across Europe.
