Research Interests

Mike is a recognised international expert on evidence-based policy and practice and R&D in social care for adults. He was Director of Research at the National Institute for Social Work (1996-2001) and at the Social Care Institute for Excellence (2001-12) before joining the Tilda Goldberg Centre for Research in Social Work and Social Care at the University of Bedfordshire in 2012 as Professor of Evidence-Based Social Work. He is a qualified social worker and a member of the Academy of Social Sciences. He is especially interested in how care can better reflect the wishes of people who use services and become more effective at meeting those needs. He is developing a programme of research in adult social care, with a focus on ageing, early intervention, reablement and dementia services.
