Research Interests

Madeline is a Research Assistant at Personal Social Services Research Unit (PSSRU), School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research (SSPSSR), University of Kent. She previously worked as a qualified Occupational Therapist in social care and mental health services.

Madeline started her research career at PSSRU with a Building Research Capacity in Adult Social Care Fellowship, awarded in 2016, funded by School for Social Care Research (SSCR), NIHR. This research focused on telecare for older adults and understanding the care navigators’ experience.

The prestigious NIHR Academy Pre-Doctoral Fellowship awarded to Madeline in 2019, has further developed her career working with marginalised communities. The MA research study ‘Reporting harassment and sexual assault by LGBTQ+ staff and students’ was completed during the fellowship and presented at the British Sociological Association Conference 2023.

Madeline currently works on Policy Research Unit (PRU) NIHR – funded Adult Social Care Policy Research Unit, themed research projects. This includes using qualitative research methods and has a particular interest in thematic and discourse analysis. Her work involves research in marginalized groups, welfare state, social care, older people, mental health, gender and sexuality. Her research has used feminist theory approach, queer methodology, explored gender equality, diversity and social justice.
