Costing Maternal Perinatal Mental Health Problems and Treatment Responses

Principal investigator(s) at PSSRU: Annette Bauer
Team: Annette Bauer, Martin Knapp, Michael Parsonage

Start year: 2013
End year: 2014

Perinatal mental illness (such as depression, anxiety, stress) affects some mothers during pregnancy and up to twelve months after giving birth. This project aimed to estimate the economic burden associated with maternal mental illness during and after pregnancy, and to compare this to the resources that are likely to be required for preventing or reducing this burden, that is, the costs for providing appropriate treatment responses.
